WASTEFUL SPENDING IN WATERLOO

Waterloo held a special election on Sept. 13 to approve a $20 million loan to develop a city-wide broadband network.

The measure passed the necessary 60% mark for approval with 84.28% (2,220) of residents voting yes and 15.72% (414) residents voting no.

The newly approved project will add another broadband provider to the city’s existing six.

The build-out for the project will start in Spring 2023 with costs estimated at $115 million.

The project is a costly and unwarranted burden for the taxpayers of Waterloo.
