IMPROPRIETY IN

INDIANOLA

Indianola sacrificed fiscal responsibility for a quick fix. When it solicited bids for the council's downtown streetscape project, it received only one in return for $3 million over initial estimates. Rather than look for new means of funding, such as that available in the American Rescue Plan, Indianola leaders spent sales tax revenue meant for infrastructure projects and refused to answer for their financial missteps.

Now as construction is underway on the project, residents are voicing their complaints with parking issues, but once again, city leaders are brushing them off.

Elected leaders should answer taxpayer concerns, especially when it comes to concerns on taxpayer funded projects.

IRRESPONSIBLE

The Indianola City Council didn't wait nor solicit new bids after the sole bid for the project vastly exceeded cost estimates.
